A Million-Dollar Restroom

Looking at the photo bellow, don't you feel somthing strange?

Japanese old folk house with a thatched roof in a MODERN BUILDING???

This place is one of the oldest Ryokans (Japanese style hotel) in Tokyo, called "Meguro Gajoen"opened in 1931.
It has a luxury wedding reception hall with hotel and restaurants.

Gajoen was formerly a bathhouse and its lavish and atmospheric sculptures, vivid murals and ceiling paintings in the Edo style were the inspiration for the Oscar-winning animation film “Spirited Away.
Unfortunately,  you are not allowed to see those artistic area without admission fee.

Although you can enjoy walking around its beautiful garden  or  a hall with Japanese traditional paintings, Ukiyoe for free!

Especially you should use a lavish restroom. They say it costed around 100 million yen to build. ( about one million US dollars, 760,000 euro)

The entrance of the restroom

Inside of the restroom, there is a little bridge over a stream.

It is a public washroom inside the complex and anybody can use it.

If you have a chance to visit Tokyo, why don't you stay here?    Accommodation fee
 might be expensive, though...ahaha...
