Hips & Berries

Autumn has come and I can enjoy red berries and rose hips in my balcony.

 Cranberry

Recently, we have a typhoon (hurricane) EVERY WEEK... Last week, we had a big typhoon which inflicted immense damage on Izu-Oshima Island,  located about two-hour-ferry-ride from Tokyo. It's quite rare for us to have such a big one in October. In addition, two big typhoons are still on their way to Japan together this week, scary...

So, I decided to pike up all the cranberries before typhoon comes.

We can enjoy rose hips, as well.

※キチさ〜ん、グラウカのヒップ今年こそキチンとしたものを渡したいんだけど、
  もう摘んじゃって大丈夫かな? 台風でシワシワになってきたものもあるんだけど…^^;

Love the crimson red of the Checker Berry:)

From here, I want to show you the Blackberry from Jun.

This one was given by my garden friend and it was the first time to have berries!

Love the shape of them!

Besides the blackberry and cranberry, I have one more edible berry in my garden, called Bilberry. It had also berries in July and I picked them up and had them frozen with blackberries.

Finally, I made three-berry-jam.  It was yummy!!

  1. Keity, nice berries! I love all of them and often gather them in the woods. I like blackberry jam, I do cranberry mixed with sugar and I like to freeze bilberry for Christmas cake. Have a nice evening tea with berry jam!

  2. The cranberries under the cage, so beautiful. And you can eat all your different berries too and even made jam of it, delicious.

  6. Lovely berries, I like them all! Your blackberry bush will probably be much bigger next year, although I have no experience growing them in containers but in the ground they get easily 5-6’ and even taller. Sorry to hear about the typhoons, we have had some bad weather in October but luckily no real autumn storms yet, this week has been real nice and warm, it’s like being back in August :-)

  7. Those berries look so delicious, Keity. Oh no, a typhoon - please be safe. We are in full Autumn here, and I am loving everything that the season brings. Lovely pictures today.

  8. Your berries and rose hips are gorgeous! I bet the jam was delicious. There seem to have been terrible storms all around the globe lately! Here in NZ we've had an extremely windy October with gales that have uprooted trees and caused a lot of damage. I hope you and your garden stay safe in the typhoons.

  9. Hi Keity! I've arrived for my first visit to La Vie en Rose, and what a lovely post this is! The berries look delicious, and the crimson red of the Checker Berry is stunning! Wow, what a pop of color! The three-berry jam sounds so good. I'm sorry you've been having typhoons, and hope the weather gets calm for you soon (I'll try to waft some sunshine and calm weather your way). Stay safe. I'll be back to visit soon. :-)
