Garden Bloggers' Foliage Day - April 2013

When I posted GBBD last week, Christina invited me to "Garden Bloggers' Foliage Day" at her blog.
She explained, "The aim is similar to show what foliage is enhancing the garden on the 22th of each month or you can highlight a particular plant." I was excited to hear that, 'cause I prefer foliage rather than flowers.
But I'm not sure whether I could convey the attractions of them. I think the photos of leaves tend to be conservative in colors and shapes...

Foliage

Anyway, here are my first edition of GBFD!

Melaleuca bracteata 'Red Gem'

The red ear tips are lovely:) Althouth two years have passed since I planted it in my garden, I've never seen its flowers. They say it produces white brush-shaped flowers.

My foliage collections are being displayed in this area!

And Christina recommended that you might remember sometimes to turn your images into tones of grey to help you understand the forms and texture that your plants are creating.

Sounds good attempt!  I tried here:)

Hmm... I think the Carex which has sharp-lined leaves has become an accent. But some large  leaves like Rodgersia podophylla would be a good addition here. What do you think of it?

And what's remarkable among those plants is...

Berberidaceae

Love its color gradient!

In addition,  my favorite sprout at this time of year is Rosa Glauca, a rose which has beautiful grayish leaves.

Rosa Glauca

It's challenging to convey its delicate color with my  photograph skill,  the grayish leaves appear to be a little bit more slight purple tinge to the naked eye.

It's fun to focus on foliage:)
Thank you for giving me a chance to join such an enjoyable event, Christina!

  1. Thank you for joining GBFD, it lovely to find other gardeners who appreciate the importance and sheer beauty of foliage. What was really interesting about your grey tone image was how important the 'tin' sunddenly became. A plant with big solid leaves would do much the same thing. Your photos really capture the delicate nature of the foliage and have a Japanese painting quality that is very unusual. Christina

  4. Your pictures of different foliage are great. Rosa glauca is a lovely rose which I also have in my garden, but I hate the Berberidaceae for their nasty prickles.

  6. Keity I am so glad Christina invited you to join and you decided to or I may not have found your blog, your foliage and photos are beautiful, I love how you have captured the delicacy of the foliage in your close up photos and I like your foliage corner in both colour and B&W, I planted a Rosa glauca last autumn so I'm looking forward this year to seeing the foliage for the first time 'in the real', thanks for sharing, Frances

  7. In a perennial garden it's important to decorate our spaces with an eye on foliage. This is a great exercise for noting what we have and what we need. Your pictures are beautiful!

  8. A very beautiful, delicate post, with lovely images. I love foliage and have some beautiful shrubs in my garden, which I also use in flower arrangements.

Thank you for the lovely post. I love your photos!
