Waiheki Island is located about 30 minutes away by ferry from Auckland, and has many wineries. We went around three of them.
This "Stonyridge Vineyard" has an unique restaurant, you can enjoy fresh wine and delicious meals under the grape-covered roof :)
Actually, I'm not a keen wine lover, but while having a lot of wine-tastings, I somehow realized that my favorite variety was Chardonnay, white wine.
I believed that I hated red wine, like Cabernet Sauvignon, which is too bitter for me.
So, I was also amazed to taste Merlot, red wine, which was attractive to me. Its taste was not too bitter as I expected, more like mild!
Enjoying a great sea view from top of the hill...
Smelling the scent of lavender...
We have a great time here in Wiheki:)
By the way...
Which do you prefer, red wine or white wine?

So interesting to visit a vineyard in New Zealand, we have not done that when we were there. Beautiful views! I like having a glass of wine with dinner and I prefer the red ones. White wine I like on a nice summerday during lunch outside.
ReplyDeleteOwww i wish i wish i could be there !!...love from me..Ria...x !
ReplyDeleteI've never done proper wine tasting, but I normally drink Sauvignon Blanc ("sav" as we call it!) I don't like red wine, especially as you are meant to drink it room temperature which only enhances it's horrible taste! (To me anyway.) Chardonnay is nice too and I sometimes have Riesling as well.
ReplyDeleteWonderful sea view, Keity! I see you tasted a lot of wine, ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI prefer red wine but dry , no sugar. Merlot is one of good wines, it need more sun and hot summer to ripen.
Thanks for taking us along on your wine tasting, Keity. What a beautiful place you visited! I was at a wine tasting lately as well in upstate New York (the wine was divine). I used to only prefer Chardonnay, but now I also like Merlot, Chianti, and the right type of Reisling (not too sweet).
